This is due to their long-established popularity. Les Paul & Stratocaster guitar models are the most copied guitars ever. No one to my knowledge has yet compiled a list. Since I began my search I discovered that they have been and still exist several clones and knock-offs. Whereas you used to find a used one in the $1000 range, now expect to pay $3500 or more. Used Rickenbacker prices have gone up & up. Rickenbackers are still only made in the states and a lot of the process is still done by hand.
They also issued a lesser expensive line made in Korea. The Gretsch Country Gentleman or Country Classic can be found at reasonable prices because Gretsch moved production to Japan. I already had an old Hofner bass and a ’66 “SG” Standard but I wanted to get my hands on a Gretsch Country Gentleman and a Rickenbacker like the ones Lennon used. Having been a Beatle fan since the Sullivan show, I have always dreamed of owning a set of Beatle guitars.
I accept Paypal via "gift" payment or otherwise buyer must cover the fees.The names Fakenbacker, Rickenfaker, Chickenbacker, and now even Chinabackers all relate to knock-off and counterfeit guitars made to resemble the classic Rickenbackers used by the Beatles and others. Price I'm selling is $850 USD which includes shipping from me in Thailand. This is unlike any of the Chinese Rickenbacker copies you find floating around as this is an authentic period piece (on a par with Greco and such (another famous company that did Rickenbacker copies back in the days). I'm not much of a player and this guitar has only spent most of its time sitting.
The major problem I would say is it has a seam crack along the side of the neck (see picture). Last time I checked, the electronics still work but could use a good replacement. The build and size, however, are very faithful to John Lennon's 325 (not something you find that often on Rickenbacker copies in general). It's still in overall good condition but some scuffs and scratches can be found throughout the instrumental due to its due. I believe it was made around the 1970s by a company called "Gaban Guitar". I'm selling my Japanese Rickenbacker 325 copy for those of you who may be itnerested.
