The downloadable version on Butel's website is version 1.18. The virtual control feature now works as well (it didn't before). All the functions work just fine now and I have yet to get a Windows error. I then re-entered my license information and it fired right up without any problems and without going through the Radio Shack loader. I finally just downloaded the software from Butel's website and installed it from scratch. I knew there was a newer version that what I had (version 1.2 build 2). I too kept trying the "check for updates" function and like yours, it did nothing. Windows (I am still on Vista) would also have a problem with the Radio Shack "Index" loader program and sometimes crashed before loading the ARC500 software.

Sometimes it would close the program all together (fortunately I had saved my work). If you clicked "cancel" it would sometimes move on and start the program. The Windows installer could not find the files it wanted on the CD and would continuously ask for a different location to look. Windows felt that there were drivers or DLLs missing and asked for the CD to be reinserted into the drive so it could finish the installation.

I would also get errors from Windows when trying to run certain features like the download or upload utility. I had the same problem and attributed it to the old version included on the Radio Shack CD.

Not sure if this has been addressed or not since there have been few posts in this topic of late.
